NameQuick on Mac and Windows
Which NameQuick 3 features, AI modes and file formats work on Mac and on Windows, and the few real differences: local models, tags, requirements and the installer.
NameQuick is the app that renames files based on their content, for Mac and Windows. NameQuick 3 is one app on both platforms, so nearly everything works the same. This page lists what is shared and the few things that differ. Last checked September 28, 2026, for NameQuick 3.0.x.

If Windows shows a warning#
Microsoft Defender SmartScreen shows a blue Windows protected your PC screen the first time you open the installer, because Windows doesn't recognize the publisher. Click More info, then Run anyway. The Quick Start has the steps and what to do if the Run anyway button is missing.
Common questions#
Does NameQuick work on Windows?#
Yes. NameQuick for Windows has been publicly downloadable since August 13, 2026, and NameQuick 3 is one app for Mac and Windows. Download it from the Choose your download.
Which AI modes are available on Windows?#
Both. Managed uses NameQuick's own AI with EU-routed processing. Self-Managed uses your own cloud API key, or a local model through Ollama or LM Studio. See API keys and Local AI models.
Can I try it on Windows before paying?#
Yes. The Self-Managed trial gives you 50 renames with no card and no time limit, using your own API key or a local model. The Managed trial starts in checkout with a payment method and ends after 14 days or 50 renames, whichever comes first.
Are the file formats the same on both?#
Yes. Both platforms accept the same file extensions. Which of them can be read also depends on your AI setup, as described in Supported file formats.
