Version 3.0.35

On a Mac, NameQuick can now sort a folder of files into new folders.

October 18, 2026 · macOS and Windows · 44 changes

On a Mac, NameQuick can now sort a folder of files into new folders. It reads the files, shows you the plan, and moves nothing until you file. And an installer you downloaded a while ago now updates NameQuick before setup starts.

Release date: 2026-10-18

New on the Mac

  • Organize into folders: choose it from a folder's menu in the sidebar, or from the toolbar or a file's menu in Files. The Assistant can also suggest it for a folder.
  • You can say how you want the files organized, for example "by client, and bank statements by year", or leave it to NameQuick, which suggests folders from what the files say. The new folders go into the same folder or another one you pick. To plan the folders, short text excerpts from each file go to the AI.
  • Before anything moves, you see the plan: each folder and what goes into it, and the files that stay where they are, with the reason, for example "Can't be read" or "Not downloaded". Choose "Look inside" on a folder and press Space to Peek at a file.
  • Nothing moves until you file, and you can undo it afterwards. A file that is open in another app is filed as soon as it's free.
  • After filing, you can keep filing new files that arrive in that folder the same way.

ImprovedImproved

  • Smart Rename now separates the words of a name with spaces. On a person's own records, such as a bank statement, contract, payslip or insurance policy, the name ends with that person's name. Invoices, receipts and tickets stay as they were.
  • From this version on, if you install NameQuick from an older download, it updates itself to the latest version before setup starts.
  • When you ask the Assistant for names, it prepares the Preset right away. Extras, or a different order of the parts, are offered next to the card instead of asked about first.
  • The Assistant's replies say "Preset", describe the parts in words, and no longer say something is saved before you save it. A card no longer shows a made-up example name.

FixedFixes

  • After guided setup, your next rename no longer takes you to Files or says "Setup complete" a second time.
  • With the Assistant pinned in a small window, Rules, Presets and History keep their full width.
  • A long Rule name wraps to a second line instead of being cut off.

Fixes on the Mac

  • After you finish guided setup, Quick Rename starts naming the files you give it right away.
  • After you finish guided setup, pressing the shortcut with files selected in Finder no longer brings the NameQuick window forward each time.

Your plan <!-- managed -->

  • Planning folders is free. Filing uses 1 credit for every 10 files, from your plan first and then from a rename pack.
  • If your credits don't cover the whole plan, you can get more credits, or file what they cover and leave the rest in the plan for later.
  • If you only have a rename pack, the Assistant now says it isn't included with rename packs. Before, it said your sign-in wasn't working.

For Self-Managed <!-- self-managed -->

  • Organize into folders works with a cloud AI provider. With a local model selected, it isn't available yet.
  • On a Mac, Continue in the on-device setup now starts the built-in AI once its model is downloaded. Before, setup kept waiting for an AI that never started.
  • The built-in on-device AI now takes photos and screenshots over about 3 MB, and long documents. Before, they were refused.
  • When the built-in AI's model is missing, NameQuick offers you the download. Before, it could fetch the model in the background without showing progress, or tell you to reinstall NameQuick.
  • On Windows, the built-in on-device AI now starts on PCs without the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, and it gets more time to answer, because it runs on the processor.

Mac

Mac
