NameQuick 3.0.0

NameQuick 3 is a major update, and it lands differently on each platform. On macOS the app has been rebuilt from the ground up on a new underlying system. On Windows it is the same app you are already running — the version number simply moves from 0.2.5 to 3.0.0 in one step, so both platforms finally share one number.

Either way it is the same app, with the same licence and the same subscription. Nothing to buy again, nothing to re-activate.

macOS: the rebuilt app

• Same licence, same subscription. Self-Managed licence keys are read from the keychain and re-activated on this Mac. Managed subscribers sign in once with the same email address; a trial that is still running keeps its remaining days.
• Your setup comes with you. Presets, watch folders and rules — including each folder's preset binding — are carried across automatically the first time NameQuick 3 opens. Duplicates of the starter presets are skipped rather than doubled. A stored OpenRouter key comes across too.
• The Finder extension and the Services-menu entry are gone. The capability is not: press ⌘⌃S to rename the current Finder selection, or use Rename Selected in the menu-bar icon.
• Rename history does not carry over. Renames made by NameQuick 2 cannot be listed or undone in NameQuick 3. Undo anything you still want to undo before you update.
• Email accounts need re-authorizing. Mail sign-ins cannot be transferred; add the account again under Settings.
• On first launch: macOS may ask once for permission to use your keychain — that is your licence being read across, so allow it. If NameQuick was starting at login, check Login Items once; the old helper is removed as part of the update, and NameQuick 3 tells you if it could not clean the entry up itself. Hotkey and Finder automation permissions stay granted, and if either is refused the app says so on its main screen with a link to the right settings pane instead of failing quietly.
• macOS 11 or later, universal — one download for Apple silicon and Intel.
• NameQuick 2.11.78 stays downloadable as the previous version for a while yet, and keeps working. If you would rather stay on it, it is at https://github.com/JosiMou/NameQuick-Releases/releases/download/v2.11.78/NameQuick-2.11.78.dmg and your licence works in both apps.

Windows: 0.2.5 becomes 3.0.0

Nothing breaks and nothing changes about how the app works. The jump is the version number catching up with the product: one NameQuick, one version line, across Mac and PC. The update installs exactly like every update before it.

Features

• Find duplicates, rebuilt as one screen. The takeover scans the moment it opens, shows every copy inline instead of hiding them behind a second door, puts the groups it could not decide first, and turns into its own receipt when it is done. It remembers the groups you deliberately left alone, names what it is holding back and why, and states the exceptions before it acts — one press keeps a folder in every group that has a copy in it.
• A local engine you do not have to install. NameQuick now brings its own on-device engine: pick it in Settings → AI, download the model once, and renames run on your machine with nothing leaving it. Each platform is offered the one engine that suits it, so there is no roster of sidecars to manage. Files are downloaded once and repaired in place if an earlier build left them half-finished, and an uninstall names the gigabytes before it deletes them.
• Point NameQuick at your own server. Alongside the named providers, Settings → AI accepts any server that speaks the OpenAI chat API: an address, a model name, and a key only if that server wants one.
• A Review lens in All Files, so everything waiting on your decision is one click away from the main list.

Improvements

• Removing a folder takes its waiting files with it, and the dialog says how many before you confirm.
• A quieter rule suggestion. NameQuick offers to make a rule for invoice-like documents only, never for the watch folder itself, and a folder NameQuick filled and later renamed no longer reads as one you filed by hand.
• A refusal that leads somewhere. When the Assistant cannot answer because the local engine is not running, it says exactly that and offers the pane that starts it, rather than blaming your wording. Pressing start actually starts it.
• A first run that ends where it should. The opening screen is a split hero — identity on the left, the three doors on the right — and setup walks the same path every time.
• Sheets behave on small windows. The migration and update sheets scroll their body instead of pushing their buttons off the bottom of the screen.

Fixes

• A model that answers with the wrong extension now has that token replaced, instead of a second extension stacked behind the first.
• Keeping the original name on a file that is no longer on disk retires the row instead of parking a failure no retry could ever cure.
• History rows measure the pane they live in, so names stop being shredded to "Invoice-FL2WM…" and badges to "A" when the Assistant is open beside them.
• Folders that could not be read are named, retried when you come back to the window, and the Retry button is no longer clipped off the bottom of the list.
